Description
A couple of users have suggested that if Nautilus is configured to open files with a single click, then Shotwell should do the same.

Just to chime in with my two cents: I'm thoroughly against this idea.

And why are you against ?
single click is the standard for kde now and gnome has good support for it. Shotwell is the first application I have seen for a long time that requires a double click in such a situation.
You do not need to follow settings from another program but I believe single click is something you should support. Even make it the default if you ask me :-)
